On a cold January day in Meridian, Idaho, the life of Trent Bryan Spreier, a 57-year-old White / Caucasian male, was tragically cut short. Born on April 14, 1957, in Rupert, Idaho, Trent was known for his generous spirit and jovial laugh. He had built a life rooted in hard work and family, initially following in his family's farming tradition before co-founding a successful insurance brokerage, Idaho's Best Insurance, with his wife, Sandra.
His kindness was well-known, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand to his family, friends, and customers.
The events of January 31, 2015, unfolded at Spreier's home on Crater Lake Court, stemming from a seemingly mundane dispute over a vehicle. An argument with his son-in-law, Cameron Post, escalated into a fatal confrontation. Post, who was 24 at the time, shot Spreier in the face. He then called the police to report the shooting, claiming that his father-in-law had approached him in his vehicle and threatened him. Although Post admitted to investigators that he knew Spreier was unarmed, he maintained that he felt threatened when Spreier reached into the vehicle.
Following the shooting, Cameron Post was arrested and initially charged with second-degree murder. However, in October of 2015, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter and the use of a firearm in the commission of a crime. In February 2016, Post was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison, with the possibility of parole after serving a minimum of five years. The tragic incident left a void in the lives of those who knew and loved Trent Spreier, who was remembered not only for his professional achievements but for his deep love for his family, his passion for fishing and woodworking, and his unwavering generosity.
