In mid-September of 2018, the life of 27-year-old Kaylynn Marie Butler, a White/Caucasian female, was cut tragically short in Nampa, Idaho. On September 15, concerned family members who had not heard from Kaylynn or her husband for several days went to their home on South Fairview Street to check on them. Inside, they made a grim discovery and immediately contacted the Nampa Police Department.
Upon their arrival, officers found Kaylynn and her 29-year-old husband, Philip J.
Butler, deceased inside the residence. The subsequent investigation and autopsies revealed a heartbreaking story. Both had died from gunshot wounds. Kaylynn had sustained two gunshot wounds, while Philip had a single wound. Investigators believe that Philip shot his wife before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide. Evidence at the scene indicated that only the two of them were present at the time of the incident, and authorities were not searching for any other suspects. The couple had children, but they were not in the home when the tragic event occurred.
The events leading up to the deaths revealed a troubled history. Just weeks prior, on August 28, Philip Butler had been arrested and charged with felony witness intimidation. Law enforcement alleged that he had forcefully instructed Kaylynn not to cooperate with an ongoing investigation. Following this arrest, a prosecutor requested a no-contact order be placed between the couple, but a judge denied the request. Philip was released from custody on August 29. A little over two weeks later, the couple was found dead. The investigation into their deaths was concluded by the Nampa Police Department, leaving a community to mourn the devastating loss.
