On an autumn evening in Nampa, Idaho, a simmering family dispute tragically boiled over, leaving one brother dead and the other facing a murder charge. The events of October 18, 2020, unfolded inside a residence on the 2000 block of Railroad Street, where 38-year-old Jonathan Dallas, a White / Caucasian male, was shot and killed. The fatal encounter was the culmination of an ongoing argument between Dallas and his younger brother, 33-year-old Jeremiah Nupen, who shared the home.
The
conflict between the brothers had reportedly been escalating for several days. On the day of the shooting, the animosity reached a breaking point. According to Nupen's account to the police, his brother had been the aggressor. Nupen claimed that Dallas had threatened to beat him up just before he kicked in Nupen's bedroom door. It was at that moment, as Dallas came towards him, that Nupen fired three shots, the last of which struck his brother in the chest.
When Nampa Police officers responded to the shooting at approximately 6:24 p.m., they found Jonathan Dallas deceased inside the home. Jeremiah Nupen was still at the scene and was taken into custody. During the investigation, it was revealed that the brothers had been involved in a physical altercation the day prior, during which Dallas had allegedly choked Nupen. Other people in the house confirmed the previous day's choking incident and that Dallas had kicked in his brother's bedroom door before the shooting. However, witnesses did not report hearing Dallas threaten to beat up his brother.
Following questioning of those involved and witnesses, Jeremiah Nupen was arrested and booked into the Canyon County Jail. He was charged with second-degree murder for the death of his brother, Jonathan Dallas. Authorities described the shooting as an isolated incident.
