In the early morning hours of August 29, 2024, a tragic series of events began to unfold in the small town of Troy, New Hampshire. Brittany Weston, a 37-year-old Caucasian female, was found deceased in her apartment on Monadnock Street. The discovery was made after her husband, Trent Weston, also 37, placed a 911 call around 3:00 a.m., reporting that he had shot his wife. When police arrived at the residence, they found Brittany Weston inside, the victim of multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
An autopsy would later confirm this as the cause of death, ruling it a homicide.
Following the initial call, the situation escalated and moved approximately 100 miles away to the I-95 Piscataqua River Bridge, which connects New Hampshire and Maine. Law enforcement located Trent Weston on the bridge, leading to a prolonged standoff that lasted for hours. Despite negotiations, the confrontation ended when Trent Weston was fatally shot by police after he reportedly raised a weapon. His body fell from the bridge into the river below and was recovered.
The tragedy deepened with a subsequent discovery inside Trent Weston's vehicle, which was left on the bridge. Authorities found the body of the couple's 8-year-old son, Benson Weston. An autopsy revealed that the child had also died from multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Investigations by the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office concluded that Trent Weston was responsible for the deaths of both his wife, Brittany, and their son, Benson. The evidence indicated that he first killed his wife in their Troy apartment before taking their son and driving to the Piscataqua River Bridge. The officer-involved shooting that resulted in Trent Weston's death is being investigated separately by the Maine Attorney General's Office, as is standard procedure. No other suspects have been sought in connection with the deaths of Brittany and Benson Weston. The community of Troy, where the family had recently moved, was left to mourn the devastating loss of a mother and her young son.
