On January 2, 2017, David M. Hill, a 57-year-old resident of Fairfax, Vermont, was fatally shot in Georgia, Vermont. The incident occurred during a dispute over driveway access on Georgia Mountain Road. Hill, a self-employed logger, was assisting his friend and mentee, Mark Brito, in turning around a logging truck when they encountered resistance from 26-year-old Ethan Gratton, whose family owned the property.
