On February 18, 2021, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Pawtucket police responded to a reported shooting on Benefit Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 20-year-old Jontel Tavares inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
