On June 27, 2018, 19-year-old Brycee John Red Owl was fatally shot during a confrontation in Kyle, South Dakota, located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The incident occurred when Palani Bull Bear, also 19 at the time, fired two shots, resulting in Red Owl's death. Additionally, Bull Bear discharged two shots at Colin Gregg, striking the horse Gregg was riding.
