On the evening of September 30, 2024, in Rapid City, South Dakota, a shooting incident occurred inside an apartment on the 4000 block of Range Road. Eighteen-year-old Marquise Walker was one of three males who sustained injuries and were subsequently transported to the hospital for medical attention. Tragically, Marquise, a male, succumbed to his injuries the following day, on October 1, 2024.
Known affectionately as "Marq" or "Q", he was a senior at Central High School where he was a
member of the school's football team. Beyond football, he was a well-rounded athlete, participating and lettering in varsity basketball, baseball, and track. His talents also extended to the arts, as he played the trumpet in the school band. His interests were varied, including archery, boxing, karate, and bowling. He was known to be a protective older brother to his five younger sisters, with whom he enjoyed family activities like game and karaoke nights.
The Rapid City Police Department, in conjunction with the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, launched an investigation into the shooting. Authorities have indicated that all individuals involved in the incident were acquainted with one another and have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to analyze physical evidence from the scene and gather information from witnesses who were present during the event. As of now, no information regarding any arrests made or suspects identified has been publicly released. Marquise was a father to a son and was expecting a second child with his fiancée.
