On May 30, 2006, Daon Middleton, a 20-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., was found dead on the shoulder of I-295 northbound, near Exit 2. He had been shot multiple times. The incident occurred around 3:00 pm, and despite the efforts of emergency services, Daon succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The discovery of Daon’s body in a public area such as a highway highlighted the level of violence that continues to affect some neighborhoods in the District of Columbia.
