In the quiet town of Rock Springs, Wyoming, the life of 32-year-old Angela Cunningham, a White female, was tragically cut short on February 2, 2024. The unfolding of events on that day would reveal a heartbreaking story of domestic violence that ended in a murder-suicide, leaving a community in mourning.
On that Friday, police responded to a report of an assault at a residence on Liberty Drive.
Upon their arrival, they were met by two juveniles who reported the deaths of two adults inside the home. The deceased were identified as Angela Cunningham and 33-year-old Zachary McQuillan. Investigators determined that Angela died from a single gunshot wound, while Zachary's death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities quickly ruled out the involvement of any other suspects, concluding that McQuillan was responsible for Angela's death before taking his own life. It was later revealed that McQuillan was Angela's ex-boyfriend and that just before the fatal incident, he had sent their 4-year-old son upstairs to hide, telling him that "monsters were coming".
Angela was a lifelong resident of Rock Springs, born on November 7, 1991. A 2010 graduate of Rock Springs High School, she had held various jobs throughout her life and was most recently employed as an Administrative Assistant for the White Mountain Water and Sewer District. She was a devoted mother to her three sons, and her world revolved around spending time with them and her extended family. The tragic event left her three children motherless. In the wake of this devastating loss, her family and the community came together to remember her, with a celebration of life planned for March 23, 2024.
