On January 28, 2018, 43-year-old Danielle Nichole Martin was fatally shot in Rock Springs, Wyoming. The incident occurred at a residence north of the city, where Martin and her boyfriend, 41-year-old Stephen Jeffrey Taranovich, were present. Taranovich admitted to using methamphetamine prior to the shooting and claimed that he accidentally discharged a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol, striking Martin in the back of the head.
