On August 28, 1906, Policeman Hermon Myron Personius of the Valley City Police Department in North Dakota was fatally shot while investigating a train robbery. The train operator, upon discovering the robbery, alerted authorities ahead of the train's arrival in Valley City. Policeman Personius, along with the police chief, another officer, and a civilian, met the train to conduct a search.
