On a tense summer day in Rolette, North Dakota, the life of James Pochant, a 27-year-old Caucasian male, was tragically cut short. On July 31, 2018, Pochant was shot and killed, an event that spiraled into a prolonged and dangerous standoff with law enforcement. The man responsible for his death was identified as 49-year-old Ronald Wayne Wootan, a resident of Rolette.
