In the early morning hours of May 23, 2021, the life of Dominque Dewayne McNair, a 28-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short in Fargo, North Dakota. McNair was discovered with gunshot injuries in the parking lot of the Africa Restaurant and Nightclub, where he was an employee. Fargo Police responded to the scene at approximately 2:11 a.m. and, despite being rushed to a local hospital, McNair succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The initial investigation by law
enforcement indicated that a number of people and vehicles were seen leaving the parking lot around the time of the shooting. The Fargo Police Department actively sought information from the public, conducting numerous interviews and reviewing video footage to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. This incident was not a random act of violence, as the investigation revealed that the suspect and McNair were known to each other and had been involved in an argument prior to the shooting.
As the investigation progressed, a suspect was identified. A nationwide warrant was issued for the arrest of a man in connection with the murder of Dominque McNair. He was considered armed and dangerous by the authorities. The search for the suspect concluded on September 2, 2021, when he was located and taken into custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The arrest was the result of a collaborative effort between the Fargo Police Department, the U.S. Marshals High Plains Fugitive Task Force, and other law enforcement agencies.
Following his arrest, the suspect was charged with murder and reckless endangerment. He made his first court appearance in Cass County, where a judge set his bond at $2 million.
