On November 24, 2013, 62-year-old Theodore Cabos Jr. of Kula, Maui, was fatally shot in an apparent hunting accident. The incident occurred around 11:36 a.m. on property owned by Haleakalā Ranch at the end of Līpoa Street in Kīhei. Cabos was hunting with family members when a firearm carried by another member of the group accidentally discharged, striking him in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
