On December 14, 2013, in Waipahu, Hawaii, 43-year-old Victor Rivera was fatally shot by Honolulu police officers at his residence. The incident began around 3:10 a.m. when officers responded to a dropped 911 call at Rivera's home on Hiapo Street. Upon arrival, they encountered Rivera in the backyard, wielding a 12-foot metal pole with a six-inch blade attached to the end.
