On the morning of March 15, 2022, what should have been a straightforward exchange in Waiʻanae unraveled into a burst of gunfire that left one man dead and three others wounded. Chad Ikaika Trise Duran, 32, male, had gone with two other men to a home in the community, where the meeting centered on the return of a stolen firearm and cash and, according to later reporting, the hope of collecting a reward for bringing the gun back.
