On April 28, 1901, Deputy Sheriff Joseph Littleton Edwards of the Dallas County Sheriff's Office in Alabama was fatally shot in the line of duty. While attempting to arrest a suspect, Deputy Edwards was ambushed and killed. His death marked a significant loss for the local law enforcement community.
