On May 25, 1910, Special Deputy Sheriff Scott Taylor, aged 48, was fatally shot while performing his duties near the Acton No. 2 mine in Alabama. He and a fellow deputy visited the residence of an Alabama Fuel and Iron Company employee who had failed to report to work, intending to inform him that the foreman required his presence.
