On October 8, 1949, 25-year-old Constable Harold E. Groover of the Chambers County Constable's Office in Alabama was fatally shot while performing his duties. Constable Groover was in the process of repossessing furniture from a 39-year-old man when the individual opened fire, resulting in the constable's immediate death.
