In the spring of 1963 in Prichard, Alabama, the life of 72-year-old Lexie Haynes, a female widow, came to a violent and tragic end. On May 6th, she was found fatally shot, a victim of gun violence that shattered the peace of her community. Suspicion soon fell upon her 16-year-old neighbor, Thomas Warren Whisenhant. The murder weapon, a revolver, was discovered in an empty lot next to the Whisenhant family's home, a chilling proximity that immediately drew the attention of law enforcement.
