On August 18, 1963, Chief of Police James Cornelius Pace of the Littleville Police Department in Alabama was fatally shot while attempting to arrest a known bootlegger. Accompanied by Colbert County Sheriff Herman Cook and two deputies, Chief Pace approached a shack approximately 1.5 miles from Littleville, believed to be operated by the suspect.
