In the quiet community of Falkville, Alabama, a violent encounter on February 5, 2023, tragically cut short the life of 36-year-old Marcus Ken Reed. The incident, which unfolded on that Sunday, also resulted in the death of 62-year-old Mitchell Ray Beard and left two other individuals wounded, shattering the peace of the close-knit town. Reed, a lineman for General Electric, was a father to four children.
The Morgan County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of the shooting, where they discovered the four victims. Reed was pronounced dead at the scene, while Beard and two others were transported to the hospital with injuries. Beard, who was Marcus Reed's father, later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation into the deadly shooting quickly led to the identification of a suspect.
Authorities arrested a 20-year-old man from Vinemont in connection with the killings. He was initially charged with capital murder for the death of Marcus Ken Reed, a charge that indicated Reed was killed in the presence of his child under the age of 14. Further investigations led to additional charges against the suspect, including a second count of capital murder for the death of Mitchell Ray Beard, alleging that two or more persons were killed during the same criminal episode. He also faced two counts of attempted murder for the injuries sustained by the other two victims. The suspect was taken into custody and held without bond at the Morgan County Jail.
