On May 1, 1964, 41-year-old Conservation Officer Loyd C. Hays of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources was fatally shot and stabbed near Flint Creek in Morgan County, Alabama. While investigating a vehicle parked near the creek, Officer Hays encountered a man and a woman walking nearby.
