On December 24, 1978, Conservation Officer Frank Johnson Stewart, Jr., aged 42, was fatally shot while performing his duties in a rural area of Alabama. Responding to reports of unauthorized hunting on private property, Officer Stewart encountered three individuals and attempted to issue citations.
