On August 12, 1986, in Tillman's Corner, Alabama, 41-year-old Laura Lynn Smith Moorer was fatally shot by her estranged husband, Vernon Franklin "Frank" Moorer. The incident occurred outside a residence while their daughters, Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer, were asleep inside. After shooting Laura, Frank turned the gun on himself, resulting in a murder-suicide.
