On an autumn evening in 1988, the life of Ruby Lanier White, a 35-year-old first-grade teacher, was tragically cut short in a violent confrontation at her Huntsville, Alabama, home. The events of October 17th unfolded as her estranged husband, Leroy White, arrived at her residence armed and angry about their pending divorce. In the preceding months, tensions had escalated, with Leroy having previously shot Ruby in the leg, an incident for which she did not press charges.
