In the quiet morning of October 10, 1997, in Etowah, Alabama, a dedicated law enforcement officer, Peter Chris McCurley, a 48-year-old Caucasian male, tragically lost his life in the line of duty. Captain McCurley, a 12-year veteran of the Etowah County Sheriff's Office who had just been appointed as the chief of the county's drug task force, was serving a drug search warrant on Briar Cliff Road. As he and his fellow officers approached the residence, they were met with a violent ambush.
