On January 29, 2012, Charles "C.J." Render, 21, was among five men fatally shot in a home invasion robbery in Birmingham's Ensley Highlands neighborhood. The victims, including Render's uncle, Ronnie Render, 42; cousins Demetrius Sanford, 19, and Jeffrey Davis Jr., 23; and family friend Jonathan Sanchez, 23, were gathered at a residence on Avenue S when the assailants entered.
