On July 27, 2014, 26-year-old Ashley Shanae Gunn was fatally shot during an assault in the 1600 block of Avenue I in Ensley, Alabama. The incident also resulted in injuries to two other individuals. Following the shooting, Michael Brent Moorer was arrested and charged with murder. However, during the trial, prosecutors were unable to secure testimony from key witnesses, leading them to request that Judge Teresa Pulliam dismiss the charges without prejudice.
