In the winter of 2016, a 31-year-old Washington, D.C. man named Kenneth Edward Morris Jr. was tragically killed just two days before Christmas. On the evening of Friday, December 23rd, Morris was driving his Nissan Altima in the 4100 block of East Capitol Street Southeast when his vehicle was violently struck from behind. The force of the impact caused his car to spin out of control, hitting a tree and another vehicle.
The car that hit Morris's vehicle was a stolen Lexus being pursued by the Metropolitan Police Department. Officers had identified the Lexus as a vehicle taken in an armed robbery a few days prior and were attempting to stop it. The driver of the stolen car, however, was speeding in an attempt to evade the police. Following the collision that resulted in Morris's death, three individuals fled from the Lexus on foot.
Police were able to apprehend the driver of the stolen vehicle, who was identified as 17-year-old David Mclane of Washington, D.C. He was subsequently arrested and charged as an adult with second-degree murder. The two passengers who were also in the Lexus managed to escape and were not immediately captured. Morris, who was not involved in the police chase, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Friends and family remembered him as a hardworking and loving man, known for his impeccable style and his ability to light up a room and make people laugh.
