On December 14, 2014, 18-year-old Jakell Lenard Mitchell, a freshman football player at Auburn University, was fatally shot at the Tiger Lodge apartment complex in Auburn, Alabama. The incident occurred shortly after midnight during a party at the complex, which had previously been the site of a 2012 shooting that resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including two former Auburn football players.
