In the quiet community of Henagar, Alabama, the life of 47-year-old Kenneth Dewayne Shaw, a white male, was brought to a violent and tragic end on the night of Saturday, November 14, 2015. At approximately 10:00 p.m., emergency services received a distressing call reporting that a man had been shot. When Henagar police officers and DeKalb County deputies arrived at Shaw's residence, they found him face-down in his own yard, the victim of a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Shaw's death quickly pointed to a motive rooted in a dispute over money. The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, along with other local agencies including the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, launched an intensive investigation that extended as far as Georgia to track down and interview individuals connected to the case. The initial stages of the investigation revealed that one person of interest was already being held in the Jackson County Jail on unrelated charges, while two others believed to have been at the scene were actively sought for questioning.
Within days of the shooting, the investigation led to the arrest of 39-year-old Casey Adam Jones of Rosalie, who was taken into custody in Jackson County. The pursuit of justice continued, and in January 2017, 20-year-old Dakota Lake Gore of Dawson was arrested on a grand jury indictment for murder. His capture was not without incident; after a brief car chase, Gore fled on foot into a wooded area before being apprehended and was subsequently charged with resisting arrest and attempting to elude officers. Later, in August 2017, a third suspect, 31-year-old Jason Lee Loudermilk of Sylvania, was also indicted and arrested in connection with Shaw's murder.
