In a tragic turn of events on June 1, 2017, Deborah Dragoo Banks, a 49-year-old Caucasian female from Jasper, Alabama, lost her life in a violent incident that stunned her community. The events unfolded at her residence on Pineywood Sipsey Road, where she was found deceased alongside her husband, 58-year-old Steven Dewayne Banks.
Authorities from the Walker County Coroner's office determined that Deborah Banks' death was a homicide, the result of being fatally shot by her husband. Subsequently, Steven Banks took his own life, turning the gun on himself. This heartbreaking event was classified as a murder-suicide, leaving a void in the lives of those who knew the couple. The case is considered closed by law enforcement, as the primary suspect in Deborah's murder is deceased.
The tragedy was compounded by the fact that the couple's two sons, aged 19 and 10 at the time, were present in the home when the incident occurred.
