In the early morning hours of July 23, 2017, a violent home invasion in the Rabbittown community near Piedmont, Alabama, claimed the lives of 23-year-old Joshua Dylan Moody and his 73-year-old grandfather, Travis Frost. Both men were white. The two were beaten and shot to death inside their home at approximately 4:00 AM. A female family member, who was Frost's wife and Moody's grandmother, was also present during the attack but managed to hide and was unharmed.
Following the double
homicide, the assailants stole a Nissan Altima from the residence, which was later discovered burned a short distance from the scene. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office quickly began an investigation, stating that they did not believe the attack was a random act. Investigators identified three suspects in connection with the murders: Jeffrey Jamall Briskey, Rhimington Otarivs Johnson, and Sicondria Michala Carter, all from Anniston, Alabama.
A manhunt for the three suspects ensued. Authorities successfully located and apprehended Jeffrey Jamall Briskey and Sicondria Michala Carter at an Econo Lodge in Petersburg, Virginia. The third suspect, Rhimington Otarivs Johnson, remained at large following the capture of Briskey and Carter. The investigation into the brutal killings of Joshua Moody and Travis Frost continued as law enforcement sought to bring all responsible parties to justice.
