On March 14, 2018, Nancy Swift, a 63-year-old nursing supervisor at UAB Highlands Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, was fatally shot in her workplace. The assailant, identified as 31-year-old Trevis Deron Coleman, was an employee in the hospital's central sterile supply department. Reports indicate that Coleman had been reprimanded or was facing disciplinary action from Swift prior to the incident.
