In the summer of 2018, the life of 17-year-old Casey Nicole Kizer, a Caucasian female from Hoover, Alabama, was tragically cut short. On the evening of July 25th, Kizer and a group of her friends drove to Fleetwood Metals in the Sylacauga Industrial Park. There, they were to meet 24-year-old Owen Ladon Wallace, who was an employee at the facility. An altercation broke out between Wallace and a male passenger who was in the vehicle with Kizer.
The confrontation escalated, and gunfire erupted, striking the teenage girl.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Kizer's friends rushed her to Coosa Valley Medical Center in their own vehicle, desperate to save her life. Despite their efforts, her injuries proved to be fatal, and she was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Sylacauga Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the homicide. In the days following the incident, authorities announced that they had identified a person of interest but did not publicly release a name as they continued to gather evidence and conduct interviews.
For nearly a year, the case remained under active investigation. Then, on June 1, 2019, a significant development occurred when Owen Ladon Wallace was arrested by the Shelby County Sheriff's Department in connection with Kizer's death. He was subsequently transported to the Talladega County Jail and charged with manslaughter. His bond was set at $25,000. At the time of his arrest, law enforcement officials indicated that the investigation was ongoing and that additional charges could potentially be filed against other individuals who were present during the fatal altercation. However, following a trial, Owen Ladon Wallace was found not guilty of the charges related to the shooting death of Casey Nicole Kizer.
