On Christmas Day in 2018, a 48-year-old man, Lorenzo José "Joe" Mercado Garcia, lost his life in a shooting in Hamilton, Alabama. The incident that led to his death unfolded during a child custody exchange that took place at the Hamilton Police Department. Garcia, who was born in the Philippines, was fatally shot during this pre-arranged meeting.
