Latywen 'Slick' Guanchez Caster, a 43-year-old man from Mount Vernon, Alabama, was found deceased on January 8, 2019. His life was cut short in a tragic series of events that unfolded within his own home. Remembered by friends and family as being short in stature but big in heart, Caster was a well-loved figure in the Movico and Mt. Vernon communities. An avid sports enthusiast, he passionately cheered for the Oakland Raiders, Alabama, and the New Orleans Saints.
The sad discovery was made by his own mother, who found his body inside a closet in his trailer located off Highway 43. Investigators from the Mobile County Sheriff's Office were called to the scene and quickly determined that Caster's death was a homicide. The cause of death was determined to be a combination of strangulation and a gunshot wound to the head.
Suspicion soon fell upon Caster's roommate, Damon O'Neil Jenkins, who was 42 years old at the time. In a bizarre turn of events, Jenkins returned to the crime scene and pretended to be a concerned citizen. This behavior aroused the suspicion of the deputies, who then took him in for questioning. Following the interrogation, Jenkins was arrested and charged with the murder of his roommate. He was subsequently booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail. While an arrest has been made, the motive for the murder has not been publicly released as the investigation continues.
