On the evening of February 5, 2019, Grant Binford, a 35-year-old Black male, was at his home on Singletree Drive in Hazel Green, Alabama, when two men reportedly forced their way into his residence. During the encounter, Binford was shot. Madison County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call of a shooting in progress at approximately 8:45 p.m. and found Binford with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Grant Binford's death led authorities to identify two suspects. The first, Gregory Renee Harris, was located and apprehended in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. Harris was subsequently extradited back to Madison County, Alabama, to face charges related to the fatal shooting. A second suspect was also arrested in connection with Binford's murder. Both individuals faced charges stemming from the incident that led to Binford's death. The arrests brought a measure of progress to an investigation that impacted the close-knit community of Hazel Green, as friends and family mourned the loss of a man described as a kind and good person.
