William Allen Brantley, a 60-year-old male, died on March 28, 2019, following a dispute that escalated to a fatal shooting in Elkmont, Alabama. The incident, which occurred on Rooker Lane, was rooted in ongoing tensions over a property issue involving logging trucks. Brantley had expressed his frustration about the trucks to the Limestone County Sheriff's Office just hours before the deadly confrontation.
The man responsible for the shooting was Kenneth Wayne Adams.
The altercation happened while Adams was in his vehicle, following a logging truck that had been working on his property. Dashcam footage from Adams' truck captured Brantley approaching the vehicle, moving towards the driver's side window. Although the camera did not record the shooting itself, audio of a verbal exchange followed by gunshots was captured. In the immediate aftermath, Adams contacted 911, stating that a man had approached him with a gun and that he had shot him.
An investigation into the shooting revealed that both Brantley and Adams were armed at the time of the incident. Brantley sustained four gunshot wounds. Subsequently, Kenneth Wayne Adams was arrested and charged with murder. His trial commenced, during which he maintained that he had acted in self-defense.
During the trial, evidence presented included the dashcam footage from Adams' truck. The defense argued that Brantley had been the aggressor, a claim supported by Adams' immediate call to 911 in which he stated Brantley had put a gun in his face. After nearly four years of legal proceedings, the jury deliberated and ultimately found Kenneth Wayne Adams not guilty of murder, acquitting him of the charge.
