On December 18, 2010, at approximately 6:30 p.m., 46-year-old Rajeshkumar Patel was shot and killed in the 3600 block of 12th Street, NE, Washington, D.C. Patel was the owner of the Newton Foodmart, a small convenience store in the Brookland neighborhood. The incident occurred while he was in front of his store, with his wife present at the time of the shooting.
