In the early morning hours of Saturday, April 2, 2011, the body of 60-year-old Kirk Alan Garnes, an African-American male, was discovered. At approximately 8:09 a.m., authorities found Mr. Garnes in the rear of 5510 3rd Street, NE, in Washington, D.C. It was apparent that he had been the victim of an assault.

The Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The case was taken on by the Violent Crimes Branch, with detectives ...
