Jerrell Little, a 29-year-old Black/African American man, was fatally shot on the evening of Thursday, March 12, 2020, in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident that led to his death unfolded around 6:30 p.m. in the 800 block of 52nd Street North in the city's Woodlawn neighborhood.
Officers from the East Precinct were dispatched to the location following a report of a person shot.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Little unresponsive in the driver's seat of a vehicle, having sustained a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel were also at the scene and pronounced him dead shortly after their arrival.
The preliminary investigation by Birmingham police suggested that a domestic argument preceded the shooting. Following the altercation, the suspect reportedly fled the scene. However, it was not long before a person of interest was identified and taken into custody for questioning.
The day after the shooting, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office formally identified the victim as Jerrell Little. Meanwhile, investigators continued to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Their efforts quickly led to an arrest in the case.
Carlos Demetrius Williams, a 30-year-old man, was taken into custody in connection with Little's death. He was subsequently charged with murder and placed in the Jefferson County Jail. At the time of his arrest, Williams was held without bond. The ongoing legal proceedings will determine the final outcome of the charges against him.
