In the quiet community of Valhermoso Springs, Alabama, the night of June 4, 2020, was shattered by an act of violence that claimed the lives of seven people, including 22-year-old James Wayne Benford. The horrific discovery was made after deputies responded to a call of shots fired at a residence on Talucah Road. Upon arrival, they were met with a grim scene where multiple victims were found, and a portion of the house was on fire.
The investigation into the mass shooting quickly launched into a multi-state effort to track down those responsible. The victims, in addition to James Wayne Benford, were identified as Tammy England Muzzey, 45; Emily Brooke Payne, 21; Roger Lee Jones Jr., 19; Jeramy Wade Roberts, 31; William Zane Hodgin, 18; and a 17-year-old female.
