In the summer of 2020, the life of 38-year-old Black / African American man, Keelan Andrews, was tragically cut short in Harvest, Alabama. On July 5th of that year, Andrews was shot and killed, leaving a community searching for answers. The incident prompted an investigation that would eventually lead to an arrest and a measure of closure for those who knew and loved him.
The investigation into Andrews' death led authorities to a man named Montrae Corbett.
Corbett was identified as the individual responsible for the fatal shooting. Following his arrest, he was charged in connection with Keelan Andrews' death, and the legal process began to unfold. The case moved through the justice system, culminating in a significant development that would bring the criminal proceedings to a close.
In February 2024, Montrae Corbett appeared in court and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter for the death of Keelan Andrews. As a result of his plea, a judge sentenced Corbett to 15 years in prison. Under the terms of his sentence, he will be eligible for parole after serving five years. This resolution, while not erasing the pain of their loss, provided a legal conclusion to the tragic death of Keelan Andrews.
