In the late summer of 2020, the life of a young woman from Montgomery, Alabama, was tragically cut short. Eighteen-year-old Kobe Reed, a Black female, found her life hanging in the balance on the evening of September 5th. On that day, she was shot on Harrison Road, a violent act that would ultimately prove fatal. For two days, she fought for her life, but succumbed to her injuries on September 7th, becoming the city's 44th homicide victim of the year.
The investigation into the shooting
led the Montgomery Police Department to a suspect, another teenager from the same city. Julian Zagaglia, who was also 18 at the time, was taken into custody in connection with the incident. Initially, he faced a charge of attempted murder, as Reed was still alive. However, with her passing, the gravity of the charge escalated significantly.
Following Kobe Reed's death, the legal proceedings against Zagaglia intensified. The charge of attempted murder was upgraded to capital murder, reflecting the fatal outcome of the shooting. While an arrest was made and charges were filed, the specific circumstances and motive that led to the shooting on Harrison Road remained unclear to the public.
