After being involved in a fender-bender, Lightsey found herself in a harrowing high-speed chase. The other driver pursued her vehicle, eventually pulling alongside and firing multiple shots.

Despite the initial investigation, a suspect remained elusive, and the case grew cold. In a significant breakthrough, the Montgomery Cold Case Unit re-examined the evidence and uncovered new witnesses. This renewed effort led them to identify 34-year-old Darrell Demond Moorer as a suspect. On December 13, 2023, it was announced that Moorer had been taken into custody by U.S. Marshals. He has since been charged with capital murder in connection with the 2015 road rage killing of Jamie Lightsey and is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility without bond, pending trial. The arrest brought a long-awaited sense of hope for justice to Lightsey's family.
