David Michael "Mike" Hammons, a 64-year-old mechanical engineer from Birmingham, Alabama, was the victim of a tragic incident on December 8, 2021. While at a Shell gas station on Edwards Lake Road in Irondale, Hammons was approached by two individuals in what authorities believe was a robbery and carjacking attempt. During the confrontation, he sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being transported to UAB Hospital, Hammons succumbed to his injuries on December 12, 2021.
