In the late hours of August 21, 2022, the life of 25-year-old Trenton Medders, a White/Caucasian male from Ohatchee, Alabama, was tragically cut short. Responding to a call about a domestic disturbance at a residence on the 1500 block of Rochester Road SE in Jacksonville, police discovered Medders inside, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate medical aid provided by the officers, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The initial investigation quickly led to the identification of a suspect who was present when the police arrived, 25-year-old Justin Kyle Tyler Racca of Jacksonville. Racca, who was known to Medders, was taken into custody and initially charged with manslaughter. A firearm was also recovered at the residence. The Jacksonville Police Department described the investigation as complex and fluid as they meticulously reviewed evidence and witness statements.
Further examination of the evidence and inconsistencies in witness testimonies led to a significant development in the case. Less than two weeks after the incident, the charge against Justin Racca was upgraded to murder. Concurrently, the investigation implicated a second individual, 25-year-old Ashley Logan Duggan of Jacksonville. An arrest warrant for murder was issued for Duggan, who was subsequently taken into custody. At the time of their arrests, Racca and Duggan were reportedly married. Both were being held at the Calhoun County Jail, each with a bond set at $760,000.
